While it might sound like hard work and a bit of a faff, multi masking actually makes complete sense - promise! Essentially it's about personalising your skincare by applying the correct mask(s) for your skin type, only where needed.
Most of us have different 'issues' on various parts of the face - maybe the odd flaky patch and some oily zones with fairly normal skin in between. Using different masks on each section simultaneously can save time, avoids overloading our entire face with the wrong product and can even make a pretty cute instagram op!
Say you have an oily, congested T-zone with blocked pores and dehydrated cheeks, restricting a clay based mask to the T-zone will ensure that the rest of your skin isn't further dried out. A hydrating mask on the cheeks and forehead means your skin gets what it needs, exactly where it needs it!
Of course you could go crazy with multiple masks all over your face, but personally I'd advise keeping things simple with a maximum of two. There are SO many different masks to choose from now and it can be difficult to know where to begin, so here's a quick guide on which one to choose for your skin type, with a few of my favourites that you might like to try.
Start by considering what your skin needs. Very few of us have consistently 'normal' skin all over our faces... if you're one of the lucky ones, you probably don't need a mask at all - and if you do want to treat yourself, a simple hydrating one will be the best option.
DEHYDRATED SKIN is lacking in water and needs a topical 'drink' packed with hydrating actives. TRY IMAGE I MASK Hydrating Hydrogel sheet mask to refresh and revive thirsty skin with mineral-rich waters and hyaluronic acid. A blend of amino acids, aloe vera and antioxidant extracts leave skin radiant and glowing. These sheet masks come in a set of five.
DRY SKIN is lacking in oil and will benefit from a shot of intense moisture to leave it plumped and smooth. TRY Clarins SOS Comfort, which is ultra-rich and nourishing to soften and comfort skin in just 10 minutes.
SENSITIVE SKIN issues such as rosacea leave us red, reactive and in dire need of soothing. TRY Yon Ka Sensitive Masque to cocoon and strengthen the skin. Its combination of arnica and horse chestnut help reduce redness and lessen the signs of reaction on sensitive skins, leaving the face silky soft and calm.
CONGESTED SKIN with blocked pores and blemishes will benefit from a deep cleansing clay mask with active ingredients to target impurities. TRY GLAMGLOW Supermud Mask to absorb impurities without affecting any natural oils. Enriched with Glycolic, Salicylic and Lactic Acids, it leaves skin feeling refreshed and cleansed and calm.
AGEING SKIN responds well to active ingredients that leave it looking and feeling more supple and radiant. TRY Image Skincare's new Firming Transformation Mask, which supports the skin's ability to resist stress that causes visible signs of aging, draws hydration to the skin, improves the look of tightness and tone, minimises the look of fine lines, gives a visible tightening effect and energises and invigorates dull skin.
